Exhibition
I think that the most challenging interaction was with mine and Imani's parents because they both questioned us pretty hard. However, we answered all of their questions and I think that they were pretty engaged. Next time I think that I would study the information a little bit better and ask my parents for feedback on my presentation after I presented to them.

Our characters
I think that to better our characters we should give them each certain gestures to define them and make them individuals. I think that we should make the little brother, Fawzi, more stubborn because that would give us a good reason to make him starve. For the mom I think we should make her a little more to herself. Malaki needs to be more assertive and Adiba should be mom like when she is with her family but loose up when she's with her friends.

Hanane-done by Imani
Hanane Johanes was born on May 3,1989. She is the sister of Malaki Johanes, and is the oldest of the three. Hanane is a loving, caring and hardworking older sister. She is always responsible and makes good decisions. While her parents are out she always takes charge of the house hold. She can be a pain to her youngest brother Fawzi when he decides to act crazy. When she is out with her friends she loves to laugh and always has a smile on.
Ever since Malaki was born she has really taken the role of being an older sister and decided not to bother her parents so much because they have a lot on their shoulders. When her father died she promised that she would look after the other 2 while her mother got a second job. Also when her father died she no longer had a smile on all the time and it was really hard for her friends to uplift her spirit.
The reason Hanane is really striving to go to America is because she is tired of seeing or hearing of people dying because of the Janjaweed. She also wants to make enough money to help her mom so she wont have to struggle to provide for the family. Hanane believes that when she makes it to America she will become a famous singer and live in California with the “rich people.” She has seen shows on people in California and really wants to be one of them.
I would say Hanane is one of those people who likes to fit in with everyone bu wants to earn her way in to make herself feel accomplished.
Aziz- done by Imani
Aziz Josephah is Malaki’s best friend from Darfur. He was born on July 10.1990. Aziz is a very outgoing guy who likes to have fun. He has a wonderful sense of humor and loves to make people laugh.
Aziz was an only child, but his mother and father were not able to take care of him because they were too poor. So he had to find a job at the age of 8. He would have to work some days instead of going to school. Throughout his childhood he was working 3 days one week and 4 the next. Once he was fourteen he decided to get a better job so he could help his mother and father. His mother worked with Malaki’s mother making clothes and that is how Malaki and him met. His father was a teacher and was not paid very well. Before his grandmother died she gave him a cross necklace that he takes along anywhere he goes.
Aziz is a very smart person especially when it comes to learning new things. Unfortunately since he missed so much of school he wasn’t able to learn how to read very well, but he can read small words.
Once the journey is over witth Malaki, and they are in America, Aziz would like to have learned how to read and write better than he does now. He also hopes to get a well paying job so he can send money back to his family in Darfur.
One of Aziz’s hobbies is to collect rocks. He really likes to see God’s creation and how every rock is formed a different way. He also loves how some rocks are different colors. Hopefully if he gets to America he can buy many rocks with the money he will someday soon be making.

Brother of main character- Fawzi Johanes
He is a talented little boy, he takes after his mom in the sense that he has a good voice but, he can also dance. He is very vulnerable when it come to the day that his dad died and whenever someone talks about him because he gets upset. He like the rest of his family dislikes the government however he is less aware of what is going on and he is very naïve. He does not make any money.
He is very extroverted in the sense that he loves meeting new people. He also has a sixth sense for picking good friends. He and Malaki fight but still love each other. His mom is very protective over him because he is the youngest. A local is currently teaching him. Right now he is obsessed with plants. Since he is a picky eater he only eats when the meal is something he likes. He loves playing games with the local boys. He doesn’t really have any hobbies other than making people laugh. His favorite possession is the recipe of his favorite dish that this dad created which that was a type of rice. His best physical trait is his blue eyes and eyelashes because they make him look so different and gorgeous but, he has really big ears. He doesn’t really have any goals at this point in his life except his dream for when he gets to the US is to be an entertainer. His father is the reason he is so motivated to get to the US because that is why he is going through this journey.
The mother of the main character- Adiba Manna Johanes
Her main talent is making clothes because when she was little her mom taught her how to make them. Also she has a great voice and sings lullabies to her kids every night. She is very scared of spiders and is vulnerable every time she hears something about her kids getting abused. She breaks down. She as well as the rest of her family is very anti the government because of what they are doing to the people. She really only makes enough money to supply her family day by day. When she first had her children she was very optimistic because she loved them and wanted the best and hoped for the best but as the war continued she just kept loosing her hope. She doesn’t really gain back her hope until the end of the story. She is for sure not an extrovert and that really shows when she gets to the US. When she was fourteen she got married to her husband and had her three children however, after sixteen years he was killed on January 11, 2003.
Adiba was never really educated but she did learn how to read from her dad when she was eight. Her goal for when she gets to the US is to find a nice family that she can live with until she gets settled and then she wants to help a designer. She loves her sons cooking but when she gets to the US she finds a great love for Big Macs. She doesn’t have many hobbies other than making clothes and making jewelry for fun.
Adiba has had this one doll that she has had since she was three because her mom gave it to her for her birthday. That doll is the most precious object she has because it is the only physical memory she has of her mom. Her best physical trait is that she has a great face and all the guys love that. Her goal is to find the best life for her family and make sure that they are safe. She is very motivated to get to the US because she wants to make sure that her kids don’t have the same life as her husband.
